About the Artist

Hi, I'm Alisha. I'm an artist in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm originally a Midwest girl from Minnesota, but I like the sun way too much and now call New Mexico my home. I taught art in public schools for eight years between 2015-2024. I left teaching in 2024 to pursue my own independent art career.
I think of myself as an accidental potter. It was never something I thought I'd actually pursue. I have a degree in animation and art education, and I only took one ceramics class in my seven years of art college. When I bought my house in Albuquerque in 2022, it had a backyard studio shed I was excited to use as an art studio. In 2023, I had the opportunity to own a kiln that fit perfectly in the studio. I figured out how to use the kiln, and a year later, I bought my first wheel. My art studio slowly turned into a pottery studio.

My work is often inspired by children and play. There are so many obligations and priorities with growing up, and I notice adults start to lose their sense of wonder. I like to create fun characters and worlds within my work. A lot of my pottery even looks like toys. It is a little reminder that sometimes it's ok to stop and have some fun, like you did when you were a kid.
